How do I find funding for a non-profit organization?I recently took a position with http://cstageinc.org a non profit organization located in Norfolk, VA that teaches kids about self esteem, music, performing, and the visual arts. We are in dire need of funding. We would like explore federal grants and also to find new ways of fund raising and promoting enrollment in the program. I need some ideas!

Im interested in starting computer training for my community? I also do well in marketing, graphic design, psychology/sociology, and music… so what ya suggest?

A grant application would be long and drawn out. Maybe it would help to start with finding a grant writer if you don’t want to deal with basic spelling, grammar, reading and writing.

Here are some sources:
Federal grants to nonprofits (technical assistance and services) or search by Beneficiary –> non profits http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.FUNCTIONAL_PROGRAM_TXT_RPT.SHOW?p_arg_names=func_cat_cd&p_arg_values=CS
Foundation Center (subscribe to them for one month and mine their database as much as you can) http://fconline.fdncenter.org/
Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/citizenship/giving/
Provides support to Community-Based Technology and Learning Center (CTLC) organizations including Nonprofit—in the United States, 501(c)(3) designation—or a nongovernmental organization; Government funded and operated—a nonprofit organization that receives government funding or is a partner with a governmental; and schools.
A non profit I helped that provides computer training (similar to what you are envisioning) got Microsoft to provide computers and software for free. Verizon provided the DSL for free. Check corporations such as Dell Foundation http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/corp/foundation/en/index?c=us&l=en&s=corp
Hope that is short enough for you
